Butterfly Watching

Our orange and grapefruit trees are in bloom again, and the whole neighborhood smells delicious, as most houses here have one or more citrus trees in the backyard.

The trees are positively buzzing with bees, and there are plenty of butterflies too. We are regularly visited by a giant swallowtail butterfly, and I was able to snap her picture a couple of times before she flew off. If you look closely, you can see that she is laying eggs on the leaves! Too bad I didn't have my extra long zoom lens, but this isn't bad considering how quickly the whole process was over.

  1. Nothing smells as good as the sweet fragrance of citrus blossoms. What a great capture of your butterfly too! Thanks for sharing your entry with the OHC.

  2. Very cool that you caught the butterfly laying eggs!! Can't tell for sure, but it looks like one of the painted lady butterflies we've raised before.
